“Amplify Peace: Saving Syrian Lives” is a multi-genre tour featuring Arab American artists Omar Offendum, Bassel & The Supernaturals, Kayem and Ronnie Malley & Turath Ensemble. The tour, sponsored by the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), aims to increase awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Syria and help gather support and resources to save the lives of Syrians affected by war.
The tour will start with a preview at the annual SAMS Symposium on October 8th. They believe their approach can target young, diverse audiences including those who are already active around Syria, those involved with other social justice causes, those generally aware but not active, and those who are apathetic but enjoy the music.
From October 19th – 30th, Amplified Peace will tour through twelve cities: Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, NYC, New Brunswick, Boston, and Washington DC. In each city, there will be two tour components: a teach-in focusing on community engagement, and a public concert focusing on awareness.
The teach-in will focus on more in-depth conversations on the humanitarian crisis in Syria and specifically SAMS work, the artists reflections and their own methods of helping, as well as a workshop on tools people can use to help the efforts. The discussion will also include a component on solidarity among different social justice movements – including local, national and global. Target for the teach-in for each city will be 30–40 people.
$20 at the door.
